Veli Sahin, Senior Director at MARCONI Communications, USA, has been working in the area of communications networks for over 20 years. He spent several years in different areas of communications systems such as transmission, switching, packet switching, wireless communications, management systems, and strategic planning working on as a Planner, Strategist, and Developer. His current interest includes end-to-end integrated planning of WDM, SDH/SONET, ATM, IP, and Wireless Multi Service Products/Platforms/Networks, development of TMN based management systems, integrated management of multiple technologies/products, and planning and development of National/Global information Infrastructures for the 21st century. Veli received his Ph.D. in Multi Hop Packet Radio Networks from Polytechnic University, and prior to joining MARCONI Communications in April 1999, he was with Bell Labs/Bellcore, NEC America, and SAMSUNG Telecommunications. He has over 80 internal and external publications and co-author of a book titled as “Network Management into the 21st Century,” IEEE Press, 1994. He has been very active in organizing Conferences/Symposiums/Workshops, and currently, he is the CNOM Chair. Example of his a few recent activities are: Co-Founder and first chair of the newly formed IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on Information Infrastructure (TCII) for 12/95 – 6/98, General Chair for the 1998 Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS’98), and Group Leader & IEEE ComSoc representative for the Second International Conference on Information Infrastructure (ICII’98). Currently, he is also member of Journal on Network and Systems Management (JNSM) Advisory Board and international Journal on Communications Network (JCN) Editorial Board.
Vice Chair: Dr. Christian N. Rad

Christian Rad is a Principal Consultant with AT&T Labs. He began his career in Telecommunication industry in 1984 after joining AT&T Bell Laboratories as member of technical staff. In 1998 he joined Bellcore as Senior Scientist in applied research working on the Service Level Assurance and the dynamics of Service Level Management. During his tenure at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Christian was a major participant in the AT&T’s ATM/SONET Infrastructure Initiatives. His contributions have been in transport provisioning, maintenance and restoration with the development of solutions for multivendor networking and automated transport provisioning. He has made major contributions to AT&T’s FASTAR, Transport Self Identification Plan, and ATM/SONET transport network deployment. His current interests include end-to-end integration planning of transport network and the management of multi-level technologies and the related services. Christian Rad received his Ph.D. in 1973 in Nuclear Physics from Texas A&M University, followed by postdoctoral work at the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to joining AT&T Bell Laboratories in 1984, Christian was an Assistant Scientist at the MIT Bates Electron Linear Acceleratory laboratory (1975-1980) and an Associate Scientific at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (1980-1984). Christian has been a member of the American Physical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, T1M1.5 working group and ITU-T Question 23 on TMN and the TMF on SLA. He is a senior member of IEEE and has served as the technical program chair and vice chair of Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).

James Won-Ki Hong is professor in the Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), Pohang, Korea. He received a Ph.D. degree from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 1991 and an M.S. degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1985. He has worked on various research projects on network and systems management, with a special interest in Web, Java, CORBA, and XML technologies. His research interests include network and systems management, distributed computing, and network monitoring and planning. He is the Director of Distributed Processing and Network Management Lab (dpnm.postech.ac.kr) at POSTECH. He has served as Technical Chair (1998-2000), Vice Chair (2003-2005) and Chair (2005-present) for IEEE Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM). He is also serving as Director of Online Content for the IEEE Comsoc for two years starting Jan. 2004. He is a NOMS/IM Steering Committee Member and a Standing Committee Member of Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS, www.apnoms.org). He was technical co-chair of NOMS 2000 and APNOMS’99. He was Finance Chair for IM 2005 (www.im2005.org) and Finance Chair and Chair of Local Planning Committee for NOMS 2004 (www.noms2004.org). He is an editorial advisory board member of International Journal on Network Management (IJNM). He is also editor-in-chief of Korean Committee on Network Operations and Management (KNOM) Review Journal. He is a member of IEEE, Korean Institute on Communication and Sciences (KICS), KNOM, and Korea Information Science Society (KISS).

Luisa Rossari was born in Cremona, Italy, in 1952. Luisa has been for many years with CSELT, the research center in telecommunications of Telecom Italia. For a number of years she has been secretary in the Network Management division. Since that time she has contributed to the CNOM activity providing back stage support, creating the presentation data base and the CNOM web site. She is currently director’s assistant in the Communication and Marketing division.
